the fucking beaurebar
This is where it all started. Damn inspiration and imagination got me again! Ha! I always start some project that turns out to be bigger, in many ways than intended. Well, it seems that way to me at least. But I still chuckle to myself. Actually all the “pimped ” or rescues I have for sale on this site, are all ignited from that same spark you could say.
It was craft at first sight. I just didn’t know the details yet. That would come in time, and another spark would ignite the idea for The Fucking Beaurebar. This whole project has retro splattered all over it. I like to put retro parts and graphics into the rescued and custom commissions. The fun value is added knowing that you have decades old toy parts in your project. The following photos are ascending in progress.
This project, as well as most others, starts with a retro toy as the base. I then planned to “alter” it’s scale by removing the upper floors and extremely changing the facade. I wanted a swampy /forestry overgrown, reclamation look, and planned a tree limb through the roof, so out came the saw. The limb is real drift wood dried, treated and permanently sealed. It it looks as if it is made of plastic itself, and makes for a great bench. The house had to loose one gable for the illusion of making this a little rum shack. I had a picture in my mind of one of the characters leaning with one hand on the broken doorway, peering warily inside. The camera view looking from inside the house out at a partially shadowed figure. The ceiling /roof hole, was then covered by hand cut oak wood veneer and large craft sticks. Both of which are surplus in my shop.
A shop surplus of various craft sticks and wood was the name of the game for this project. The scale of the wood grain works well, and the material’s ease of cutting and shaping also. Fully covered, this little house took to various paint techniques well.
Next is all the details I like to put in. I wanted a personal touch as these were made specifically for each cast member, and I had to tie in some of the jokes mixed in throughout the campaign. If you look closely at Jesters’ paint set, her infamous “stamp of The Traveller” we’ll call it, is in the corner. Another signature and doodle are on the wall of the house.
Around the back, beside the “Nott sized” hole, is a small grouping of eggs that glow under UV light. These were a few extra practice casts from a set of retro Aliens movie minis. I just had to put a couple in there! The target board on the wall is soft balsa wood so the arrows and weapons can be stuck in. The chimney and inside hearth are covered with taxidermy putty and little scrap, leftover bricks from another project.
